Obituary for Frank Frye

Saltville, VA

Frank Frye, age 96, passed away at home on December 26, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Upper Poore Valley in Saltville and the ninth child born to John and Elizabeth Hogston Frye on January 10, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife: Marilyn Gilbert Frye; a daughter: Dolly Morgan; grandsons: Eric and Derek Lamie; 6 brothers: Carl, Friel, Clifton, Sam, Stuart, and John R. Frye; 7 sisters: Lanie Frye, Viola Osborne, Stella Tolbert, Claudine Davidson, Pauline Bowers, Olivene Cardwell, and Louise Haga; and a special nephew: Frank Frye.
Frank was especially proud of his family. He is survived by 2 sons: Ronald (Henry) Frye and wife, Mary, of Saltville, and Tim Frye and wife, Dianna, of Liberty, NC; 5 daughters: Fada Lamie and husband, Charles, Kathy Venable, Patricia (Suzy) Duncan and husband, Charles, Treva Collins and husband, Phil, all of Saltville, and the light of his life, Cammy Frye, of the home; 2 sisters: Elizabeth Bays and Patsy Vance and husband, Jim, of Saltville; a sister-in-law, Vernie Frye, of Marion: grandchildren: Mike (Teresa) Morgan, Pam (Stuart) Moore, Kristin (Michael) Carter, Kim (Dewayne) Kimberlin, Kara (Davis) Goforth, Joe Roberts, Sandy Joyner, Jessica Frye and Dave Renson, Bryan Venable, Melissa (Danny) Tiller, Daniel Collins, Brandon Collins and Amanda Barbrow, Ben Frye, and Zach Frye, Seventeen great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren also survive; special friends: Clarence Frye, Edd Kell, Helen Dye, and Bud and Brenda Frye. Many loving nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Frank was a graduate of Rich Valley High School, was employed as an electrician, having worked at Olin, Clinch River Power Plant, and retiring from Mouldings in Marion, VA. After retirement, he concentrated on his beautiful garden growing his special tomatoes, making wood projects such as cabinets, shelves, stirrers, and swings for family and friends, and becoming a ‘top notch’ cook after his wife passed away. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch, visiting in the community when he could drive and loved to joke, laugh, discuss religion, and talk politics. Frank was a firm believer in God and was a founding member of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church, which he attended until recently when his health prevented him from going.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 30, 2017 at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Gilbert and Rev. Robert Prater officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Rose Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Henderson Funeral Home.
