Obituary

Chilhowie, VA

Albert Franklin Lucion, Jr., known to many as "Al," passed away at his home on May 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving wife of 37 years by his side. He was 63 years old. Al was born on February 15, 1962, in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He grew up in Pulaski County, Virginia, after graduating from high school he began a long career in construction, working in many parts of the United States. Most recently, Al worked at General Dynamics, where he served as union president. He was passionate about workplace safety and always looked out for the well-being of others. Even during his illness, Al continued to work and remained a dedicated and hard worker. He cherished the friendships he made with coworkers and was known for giving everyone their own special nickname. Al also loved to cut up and had a big sense of humor—he could always make people laugh and brighten a room with his personality. Outside of work, Al enjoyed a peaceful life at home with his wife and dogs. He loved gardening—especially growing tomatoes—taking walks with his wife and their Basset Hounds and working around the house. He also loved visiting with his kinfolk, spending time in nature, camping, and going hunting and fishing whenever he could. Quiet mornings with his father when camping, drinking coffee and talking, were some of his favorite times, and he held those memories close. He missed both his father and his brother deeply. He was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. Above all, he loved his wife and the life they shared. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and the simple joys he found in everyday life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lucion Sr. and stepmother, Beatrice Lucion; his brother, Charles Lucion; and half-brother, David "Bolo" Mannon.

Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife Tammy Lucion of Chilhowie, VA; his mother, Edna Gallimore of Basset VA; half-brother, Billy Miller and his son Ethan; step-brother, Andy Mannon and wife Amy; step-sisters, Teresa Bolling and husband Henry, Gail Byrd and husband John; sister-in-law, Donna Smith and husband Wayne; mother-in-law "Mom", Phyllis Taylor; two nieces, Toshia Cox and husband Travis, Tanya Terrell; nephew, Charles "C.B." Lucion; and additional nieces and nephews; and his fur babies, Hank and Bellamy.
