Alfred Dale
Scott
Jun 23, 1947 — Sep 18, 2025
Ceres
Ceres, Virginia
Alfred Dale Scott, age 78, passed away peacefully encircled by his family's love on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at his home in Ceres, Va.
Dale had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. He loved being outdoors whether fishing, hunting, working on his farm, or enjoying a round of golf. He found great joy in singing, especially at church, where he faithfully attended prior to his long-term illness and served as superintendent at Zion United Methodist Church. Dale's love extended to his animals, who were always an important part of his life and home. He proudly served his country in the United States military during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and recognition as a Marksman (Rifle). His service was a point of honor and reflected the same discipline, courage, and commitment he carried into every part of his life. Dale dedicated many working years to serving others, working at Kroger in Ohio, manager at Acme Markets, and later assistant manager at Food City in Marion. He truly loved his work, not just as a job, but to brighten the lives of others. Dale had a special place in his heart for children, always quick to give them a dollar, a smile, or anything he could to make them happy. His nickname, "Bird," came naturally, as he was often heard whistling while he worked or went about his day. Dale's greatest gift was the way he loved, and that love will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert "Robbie" Scott; parents, Robert Scott and Mildred Riley; father of the heart, Clem Riley; siblings, Michael Scott, Michael Riley, Wesley Riley; special hunting buddy, Eddie Starling.
Dale is survived by his loving and devoted "Wifie" of 23 years, Barbara Ann Scott; daughters, Melinda "Mindy" Scott, Kristy Frost and husband, Brad; sons, Jeffrey Alan Scott and wife, Carrie, and TJ Harman; sisters-in-law, Janet Scott, Kay Riley and Suzanne Riley; 6 grandchildren, Cody Amber Robertson, Robert Evilsizer, Bianca Harman, Shaylee Frost, Hudson Scott and his sister; 3 great-grandchildren, Luke Robertson, Asher Robertson and Brooklynn Evilsizer; soon to be "little baby doll," Everley Jade Prater; several special nieces and nephews as well as special great nieces and nephews; his employees and customers that he loved dearly; a host of many other loving family and friends including his church family.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice, especially Becky and Bethany for their loving care.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Neal Hammons officiating. Graveside services will follow at New Zion Church Cemetery, 3171 Old Rich Valley Road, Ceres, VA 24318. Military rites will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post #4667.
