Annie Ruth Adams Hawthorne, 89, of Chilhowie, Virginia, went to join her heavenly family on Sept. 1, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Walter "Bud" Hawthorne; her son, Dana Charles Hawthorne; her mother and father, Zenna Hogston Adams and Howard Veon Adams; one sister, Bertie Mae Gillespie; and two brothers, Johnny Adams and Wayne Adams.

Annie was born in Newhall, West Virginia, on December 13, 1933. She and her family moved to Glade Spring, Virginia, after her father was killed in Europe in 1944 while serving his country. She graduated from Glade Spring High School and later married Charles Walter Hawthorne. They moved to Central Illinois in 1963, and Annie lived there until October 2022, when she returned to Virginia to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

Annie was a long-time employee of the Stonington, Illinois school system. She attended Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, Illinois. In the final months of her life she looked forward to hearing Pastor John Graham's sermons delivered by Zoom from Mountain View United Methodist Church in Chilhowie.

She is survived by two sons: Terry "Randy" Hawthorne and wife Nancy of Chilhowie, Virginia; and Gary Hawthorne of Springfield, Illinois; six grandchildren: Samantha Farris of Dawson, Illinois; Joshua Hawthorne of Taylorville, Illinois; Alisia Hawthorne of Athens, Illinois; Nathan Hawthorne of Hartsburg, Illinois; Sarah Price and husband Michael of Roanoke, Virginia; and Stephen Hawthorne and wife Stephanie of Nashville, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved four-legged friends Teddy and Luna.
