Anthony Stephen "Tony" Rector Glade Spring, Va. Tony Rector, age 71, went to be with the Lord and Savior at his residence Sunday, August 22, 2021 following a lengthy illness. A native of Saltville, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and Evelyn Rector; in-laws, John and Lizzie Wyatt. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cathy Wyatt Rector of the home. One son, Greg Rector and wife Kathy of Glade Spring, Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Price (Ray) of Rural Retreat, Nancy and Earl Looney of Glade Spring. Nancy provided many delicious Sunday meals which he enjoyed and appreciated. One brother, David L. Rector of Bristol, Va.; three sisters, Bradley Osborne (Bob) of Saltville, Polly Osborne (Stuart) of Chilhowie, and Missy Sowell (Michael) of New York. He was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and retired from Westinghouse, Inc. after many years of service. He was a member of the Washington County Board of Supervisors; member of the Lions Club and he was Mayor of Glade Spring for two terms. Tony was an avid UT fan, loved cars and his family. He was blessed by caring and loyal neighbors, Virgil and Ann Wimmer whom he appreciated so very much. After retiring, he was owner and operator of Rector's Heating and Air Conditioning for several years. During this time, he was known to provide an outpouring of generosity and kindness to many in the community and surrounding area. He was a devoted Christian and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. Dixon, staff of Caris Healthcare, Lindsey, for the support and loving care to Tony and his family. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Mount Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring with Pastor Roger O'Quinn officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicky Rector, Jared Rector, Harold Trent, Jason Shepard, Earl Looney, and John Joanna. Honorary pallbearers will be Smyth Co.
