Bristol, VA Betty Ann Collins, age 89, went to be with her Lord, at home, on July 10, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband of 72 Years, Lloyd William Collins, their children; Cheryl (Dennis) Sams, Beverly (Mike) Shankel, Mike Collins, all of Bristol, VA, Debbie Bogese of Prince George, VA; Joe (Rebecca) Collins of Martinsville, VA, and Kenny Boardwine, of Bristol, VA. 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, brothers Giles F (Freda) Boardwine and Bob (Carolyn) Boardwine, sisters-in-laws Mazie Thompson and Jean Collins. Betty was born in Corn Valley, VA to the late Rosa Hickey and Dolfus Boardwine and grew up in Saltville, VA, graduating from Meadowview High School, where she met her sweetheart Lloyd. They were married in 1949. She was a loving, dedicated wife and mother and her home and her heart were always open for her children, their friends, extended family, neighbors, church functions and even strangers, having hosted college students for holidays and hosting Up with People performers while performing in the area. She made everyone feel welcome through her kindness and great cooking, especially biscuits and yeast rolls. Her love of her Lord was evident through her example of servanthood in her home for her family, friends and neighbors, always with kindness and joy. She was an active member of Midway Baptist since its inception 55 years ago, serving as Sunday School teacher, GA & Acteens leader, VBS director and teacher, choir member, WMU president and numerous other roles. After Lloyd's retirement, they enjoyed RV trips across the USA, traveled with the S.O.W.E.R. Ministry as they volunteered their time refurbishing children camps and churches and served with the Lebanon Baptist Association Disaster Relief. A Celebration of Betty's life will be held July 17 at 2 pm at Midway Baptist Church, 21318 Old Dominion Rd, Bristol, VA 24202.
