Billie Marie Maiden Elliott of Saltville passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Eugene Elliott; parents, Hubert and Bessie Debord Maiden; two sisters, June Krupcale and Patsy Ford; two brothers, Hubert Wayne "Mickey" Maiden and Milton Warren Maiden.
Billie was born in Saltville on March 26, 1932. Except for a brief period in Louisiana, she spent her childhood and teen years in Saltville and graduated from Saltville High School. She received a School of Nursing Degree from Roanoke School of Nursing and became an RN in 1952. She started her nursing career at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and remained a dedicated nurse throughout her years in Martinsville, Hickory, NC, and Charlottesville. While in Martinsville, she started working in a nursing home and continued that focus as Director of Nursing/Nursing Consultant for the rest of her career. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University in 1979.
While in Roanoke, she met her future husband, Warren. They married in 1953 and had a happy and devoted marriage until Warren's recent passing. She was a loving and sensitive wife and mother and was always willing to lend a hand. She stayed by her husband's side to the very end.
Billie had varied interests over the years including bridge, golf, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and crocheting. She loved her cats. She was an active member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church until her health declined. She put in many hours as a volunteer at The Museum of the Middle Appalachians.
Billie is survived by her two sons, Warren Jr. and David; her sister, Eleanor Mahoney (married to Leo); close friend, Eleanor Jones; her cat, Ms. Kitty; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville, Va. with Rev. Lisa Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Madam Russell United Methodist Church.
