Saltville, Va. Billy Joe Nunn, age 83, completed his earthly journey at his home on Monday August 30, 2021, after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, family and pastor. Billy Joe was born on September 21, 1937. He was a lifetime resident of the Down Poor Valley section of Saltville and a graduate of Saltville High School. He retired from Berry's in Chilhowie, VA He loved his church and church family at the McCready United Methodist Church. He also had a love of country and gospel music which led him to play the guitar with Southern Grace for several years. His love of cars led him do some drag racing and attend car shows. Billy Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, Rosa and Joe Nunn; two sisters, Madge and Dixie Nunn; two brothers-in-law, Tom Crawford and Rod Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Freda Frye Nunn; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Bobby and Anna Frye, Pattie Crawford and Leota Smith; several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Special thanks to Dr. Jastan and Dr. More and staff at Johnston Memorial Cancer Center, Ballad Home Health and Home Health and Hospice Care. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Smith and Elder Kenneth Presnell officiating. The burial will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
