Billy "Boo" Wayne Smith

Rich Valley, VA

Billy "Boo" Wayne Smith, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024. He was born on March 26, 1941 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Jack and Belle Smith. Throughout his life he was always a farmer, spending his days under the sun working the land. He was a skilled machinist at Titan Wheel until his well-deserved retirement. Billy's passion for farming extended beyond his own fields; he was always eager to lend a hand to neighbors and friends, offering his expertise to repair farming equipment and support anyone in need. He enjoyed tending to his garden and raising goats, but most importantly spending time with his family. His hard work ethic, kindness, and love for all of his friends and family will always be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Smith, Jim Smith, Bud Smith, and Gail Smith; and also, two sisters, Polly Call, and Betty Hash.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Smith; his son Michael Smith and husband Randall Vaught; sister, Jane Call and husband Bill; brother, Paul Smith; also, several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his sister-in-law, Carolyn Owens, Anita Hess who went above and beyond and was like a daughter to Billy to whom he referred to as "Lucy", Steve Lindamood, Scott DeBord, Hal Campbell, and Jackie Gillespie for all of their love and care. They were excellent caregivers.

Flowers are appreciated, but donations may also be made to the Riverside Church.

Funeral services for Billy will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Riverside Church with Pastor Mack Blevins officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service, burial will follow at the Riverside Church Cemetery. Tom Buchanan, Hal Campbell, Wilbert Holmes, Joel "Koolaid" Perry, Steve Lindamood, and Scott DeBord will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are John Barns, Gary Crabtree, Jamie Armstrong, Jerl Armstrong, Mark Hess, and Barry Hess.
