Saltville, Va.

Brenda Kay Cahill Cardwell, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, after a brief illness. Brenda was born on February 22, 1943, in Saltville, Virginia to E. H. "Kay" Cahill and Dorothy Hammonds Cahill. She was a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church since the age of 5. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Linda Fay; and brother Samuel.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Ryburn Cardwell. Together they owned and operated Cardwell's Grocery for 37 years, as well as various farms. She is also survived by two daughters, Lynn C. Hamm and husband Rodney of Meadowview, Va. and Helen M. "Mitzie" Coleman of Saltville, Va.; two grandsons, Derek A. Coleman of Meadowview, Va. and Jared W. Hamm of Meadowview, Va.; her great granddaughter and the delight of her heart, Sophie Kay Hamm; one sister, Patricia C. Frye of Fort Mill, S.C.; nephew, D.J. Frye and wife Emily of Lake Wylie, S.C.; twin great nephews, Thomas and Andrew; niece, Holly Marie Logan, husband Josh, and children Tyler and Brynn of Tega Cay, S.C.; sister-in-law, Anna C. Rector and husband James F. Rector of Bristol, Va.; and nephew, James Rector and wife Lauren Griffin of Bristol, Va. There are also many, many friends and extended family left to honor Brenda's memory.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Lena Manning and the staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Reverend Mark Baumgardner, and Reverend Lisa Bryant, and everyone who provided prayers, love, and support during this tragic time.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Madam Russel United Methodist Church in Saltville, Va. with Pastor Tim Best and Rev. James Bowers, Jr. officiating. Committal services will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Va. Pallbearers will be D.J. Frye, Jamey Rector, Rodney Humphrey, Roger Cannon, Chris Spencer, and Jimmy Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be John Thomas, Randall Able, Cameron Ratcliff, and Mrs. Carl (Anna Mae) Cardwell.
