Chilhowie, Va. Charles A. "Charlie" Galliher age 79, passed away on Monday, September 27th at Bristol Regional Hospital in Bristol, Tn. Born in 1941 to Charles Bruce and Ruby Clarice Martin Galliher. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 40 years Linda Louise Hunt Galliher; sisters, Doris Stephens, and Margaret Watts; and brother, Bill Galliher. Charlie influenced the lives of hundreds of local young people during his time as a High School Band Director in Grayson, Wise, and Smyth Counties. "Captain G" as many of his students would call him, spent a career teaching an appreciation for the arts, the discipline of self-improvement and the joy and camaraderie of being "in the band." Many of his former students will undoubtedly consider this The Day the Music Died. After retiring from teaching, Charlie liked to pass on joy to others by remembering the good old days of music via social media, attending craft fairs, tinkering in his garden and growing the best watermelons in all of Southwestern Virginia. Charlie is survived and remembered by his son Chuck, daughter-in-law Cindy, and grandson Cory. His many nieces and nephews will miss Uncle Charlie too. His family would like to thank Sue Gillespie and her entire family for all of the love, support, and kindness they shared with him over many years. He truly considered all of them his family. They would also like to thank sister-in-law Mary Taylor and her entire family along with Daniel and Brooklyn Baker for always being there to lend a helpful and gracious hand as well as sharing their time with Charlie. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery in Chilhowie, Va. with Pastor Daniel Garrett officiating.
