Clinchburg, VA On Dec 29, 2020, Charles Michael "Mike" Heldreth, age 64, of Clinchburg VA, completed his work here and began his new life. He was the doting husband to his wife and best friend of 39 years, Sheila Blankenship Heldreth and companion to his faithful Shetland Sheepdog Lilly. Born in Orléans, France on May 28, 1956 to Charles Kent Heldreth and Bradley Campbell Rose Heldreth, he lived his life in Saltville, VA after returning to the US. A true Renaissance man, Mike served in the Army Reserves, worked as a draftsman at Dewberry and Davis Engineering Firm in Marion, VA for 22 years, and a proprietor at CKM Consulting before retiring in 2015. He was a land surveyor, musician, cook, master storyteller, and jokester. Always an animal lover, he was "dad" to many fur babies over the years. Most importantly he was a friend to all - best said in his own words from a recent post: "I am a product of everyone I have ever met… thanks". Those of us fortunate to call him family include his brother, David Heldreth and his wife Robin of Saltville, VA; cousin Dr. R.W. "Woody" Kent and his wife Pat Blake of Decatur, GA. Although technically an in-law he was like family to many of Sheila's relatives. He was a brother to Kay Blankenship Maiden and her late husband Gale of Moravian Falls, NC who he worked with for many years, and sipped coffee and played tunes with for many more. He was also a brother to Karen Bordwine and her husband Odell and daughter Nyla of Emory, VA. He was Uncle Mike to Jill Howard and her husband Matt of Charleston, SC, and Krista Gale Maiden and her daughters Kayni McGlocklin and Ali Baty of Huntersville, NC and Tyler, TX as well as Jon McGlocklin of Meadowview, VA and also Lexi, Jordan, and Jonah Maxwell of Huntersville, VA. A close friend to G.R. "Jeff" Campbell as well as many others that were very special to Mike in the Kent, Grady, Heldreth, Rose, Duan, and Blankenship families. He was a member of Mahanaim United Methodist Church and also attended Madam Russell UMC and Abingdon UMC throughout the years. The family would like to thank the staff at JMH Cancer Center. Due to Covid-19 celebration of life will be held at a later date.
