Chilhowie, Va. Clarence Eugene "Cootsie" Olinger Jr., age 73, of Chilhowie, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at his home in Chilhowie, Va. After a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 2, 1949, to the late Clarence and Mildred D. Olinger. He worked at H.S. Williams for 50-plus years. Cootsie loved to fish, sitting on his porch, and spending time around town. He had friends everywhere he went. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Wayne "Shortie" Olinger; and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brother, Jerry Lynn Olinger (Berlinda); nephews, Christopher Olinger, and Jeremy Olinger (Keelyn Poe); great niece, Stevie Leigh Olinger, and great nephew, Myles Olinger; niece, Kellie Olinger; sister-in-law, Linda Olinger; two aunts, Daphne McCready (Darrel), and Rita Rupe (Bob); uncle, Jim Crow Doane (Judy); special friends, Michael Hancock, Sr., Jake Harris, Chris Alexander, Ivan Ross, Larry Osborne, Billy Gross, Jason Porter, Chris Jones, Cole Jones, and many other H.S. Williams friends. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Evans and Pastor Dale Allison officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Ridgedale United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Garry Evans and Pastor Dale Allison officiating. Jake Harris and Cootsie's friends and fellow employees from H.S. Williams will serve as pallbearers.
