Connie Sue Nipper Jackson

Connie Sue Nipper Jackson, age 68, an adored wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Abingdon. She was born on May 28, 1955 in Saltville, VA at the McKee Hospital, the daughter of parents Douglas and Carrie Nipper. Connie was a 1974 graduate of Rich Valley High School and was editor of the school's yearbook "The Lasso" her senior year. Out of high school she worked for The Saltville Progress, Emory & Henry College and in 1976 started a 25-year career with Appalachian Power in Abingdon. She retired from Bristol Virginia Utilities in 2010. She kept a sly smile in the corner of her mouth and saw the world through bright blue eyes. As a mother she was endlessly nurturing and supportive, valuing mischievousness but never suffering rudeness. She was her son's first call in crisis or triumph. Her cakes were prized at potlucks and could show up on birthdays of dear friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her father Douglas Allen Nipper.

Left to cherish her memory is her mother Carrie Nipper; her husband of 45 years, Charlie Jackson; her son, Drew Jackson and his wife Kerry O'Connor; grandson, June Thomas Jackson; several cousins; and many dear friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville with Pastor Barbara Farmer officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home prior to the procession to the cemetery.
