Crystal Michelle Kestner

Crystal Michelle Kestner, age 44, a devoted Christian and true servant of the Lord, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite her challenges, Crystal never wavered in her faith, often saying, "God is good," and always greeting the world with her radiant smile. She was born and raised in Saltville, Virginia. Crystal was a graduate of Northwood High School, where she excelled both in academics and athletics. During her senior year she led her team to a Varsity Volleyball State Championship victory and also a Varsity Basketball Regional Championship Victory both in the 1997-1998 season.  Her talent and dedication led her to Concord University, where she earned a double bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and also achieved greatness as a tri-sport athlete, participating in track, basketball, and softball from 1998 until graduating in 2002. Her exceptional achievements were recognized in 2013 with her induction into the Concord University Sports Hall of Fame and also the Smyth County Sports Hall of Fame in 2023. Crystal's passion for knowledge and helping others guided her to a career in education. As a beloved teacher at Marion High School and Marion Middle School, she taught Algebra and Technology with a unique blend of skill and compassion. She was not only a teacher but also a coach, mentor, and friend, always going the extra mile to inspire and support her students. Her selflessness and commitment left an indelible mark on countless lives. Known for her loving, humble, genuine and caring nature, Crystal never met a stranger. She placed God and her children above all else, living by her faith, kindness, and servitude in every aspect of her life. Motherhood was Crystal's greatest life accomplishment and her daily pride and joy were her children Calvin and Adalynn. Her legacy of love, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Romie and Charlotte Kestner, and George and Virginia Holmes; aunt, Betty Hall; and two uncles, Starritt Holmes and Larry Kestner

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Calvin Kestner and Adalyn Kestner; her parents, Melvin and Patricia Kestner; brother, Andy Kestner and wife Stacey; sister, Michele Kestner; nieces and nephews, Jacob, Tyler (Paizlee), Desmond, Coen, Cana, Cruz, and Hailey; aunts and uncles, Gracie (Lanny) Harner, Gail Kestner, Bill (Nancy) Holmes, Ralph (Barbara) Holmes, Nelda Holmes, Lois Brickey, Kyle (Judy) Holmes, and Marvin Homes; life long best friend, Jennifer Surber; and work husband, Dan Sturgill; she is also survived by many friends, and students.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kestner's Memorial Fund at any of the Bank of Marion branches for her children.

Funeral services for Crystal will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Chilhowie Christian Church with Pastor David Medley officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11. a.m. on Saturday at Mount Rose Cemetery with LeDonna Stuart officiating everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery. Jacob Kestner, Tyler Kestner, Scott Holmes, Eddie Holmes, Dillon Kestner, Matt Kestner, Dan Sturgill, and Raymond Joines serving as Pallbearers.
