Dakota Ray "Cody" Butler, age 24, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025.  Cody was born November 15, 2000 in Marion, Va. to his father, Ray Butler and his mother, Betty Perry.  Cody was a wonderful son, an amazing father to his two sons, and a wonderful friend to many.  Cody was a graduate of Northwood High School where he excelled in all subjects.  He was a highly intelligent student and achieved the highest S.A.T. score in his district.  After high school, Cody attended Liberty University for two years.  He was a quiet and well reserved young man. When Cody walked into any room it would immediately light up with his beautiful smile and his kindness.  Cody was an avid animal lover and would rescue any and every animal that needed rescued.  He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Shirley Westrick, and Jeanette Marie Russell, and stepfather, Jay Perry.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother Betty Jane Hamm Perry; his father, Arnold Ray Butler, Jr. and wife Teresa; sons, Marshall Ray Butler, and Dante Kashius Butler; step grandfather, Floyd Russell; half-brother, Joshua Johnson, step brother Derek Dickenson; half-sister, Kayla Johnson, and  step sister, Andrea Davis; special uncle and aunt, Robert and Karen Butler; special cousins, Austin Mardis, and Shelby Osborne; several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Henderson Funeral Home.
