Dallas “Buster” Doane, age 62, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, comforted by the assurance of his faith and ready to meet his Lord and Savior.

Buster had a special gift for bringing his family together and filling every room with laughter. His family often found themselves wondering whether he had lost his mind or was simply entertaining himself by keeping everyone else guessing. No matter what was going on, he had a way of lifting spirits and making people smile, especially when they needed it most. He could come up with stories and ideas so outlandish that you almost hesitated to repeat them for fear no one would believe you. When his health allowed, Buster enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and swimming. He worked for Asplundh and Jenson Sewing for many years and made countless friends along the way. He was also a lifelong Steelers fan. Whether they won or lost, Buster never stopped cheering them on. While he loved his family deeply, nothing was more important to him than his relationship with the Lord. Buster read the Bible from beginning to end seventeen times and remained faithful even after losing his eyesight. His faith never wavered. He wrote gospel songs and played the piano and guitar, using his God-given talents to praise the Lord and share the joy that filled his heart. Buster loved everyone he met, and in return, he was loved by so many. He leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, faith, and memories that will be treasured forever. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, exactly where he longed to be.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 30+ years, Lois Doane; parents, Dallas Nathaniel Doane and Betty Carter Hockett; sister, Darlene Thomas; brother, Larry Doane; and fur babies, Sugar Bear, Sheba, Buttons, Gracie, Little Bit, Rocky, Sandy, and Polly.

Left to cherish Buster’s memory are his sisters, Wanda Waddell and her husband, Dennis, who was not only his brother-in-law but also one of his closest friends, and Debbie Cannon and husband, Bill; favorite grandson, Jimmy Olinger; special nephew, Doug Keesee; several nieces and nephews; and a host of many other loving friends and family.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Chilhowie EMS and the ICU staff at JMH.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robin Keesee officiating at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Valley Road, Saltville, VA 24370. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Waddell, Jimmy Olinger, Doug Keesee, Dennis Waddell, Jr., Brandon Pierce and John Pierce. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
