David Wayne "Bird" Barker

David Wayne "Bird" Barker, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on January 23, 2025. He was born on January 5, 1938 in Saltville Virginia to the late Charles and Ruby W. Barker. David was known for his kind soul and selfless nature. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others, offering support and kindness without hesitation. He had a passion for gardening, finding joy in spending time outdoors. He was the last living sibling of his family and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years of marriage, Margaret Cox Barker; his two sons, Michael and Brian Barker; two brothers, Paul and Freddie; and four sisters, Tilma, Wynotta, Edith, and Katherine.

He is survived by one son, Joey Barker of Saltville, VA; two daughters, Wynotta Totten of Saltville,VA, and Susan Barker of Wellington, NZ; five granddaughters, Yolanda Morris, Payton Freeman, Kaylee Totten, Hannah and Haley Barker; three grandsons, Harry, Caleb, and Max Allen; one great-grandson, "his little buddy" Sebastian Freeman and one brother-in-law, John Cox and wife Sandy of Dallas, TX.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
