Obituary

Saltville, Va. Doris Ann Griffitts Bordwine, age 68, of Saltville, Va., earned her angel's wings peacefully on March 9, 2022, at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a three-month battle with sickness. During her sickness, she remained a constant pillar of strength for her family. Ann was born to Doris Ann Brickey Griffitts and Walter Ralph Griffits on June 5, 1953. After she graduated from RB Worthy High School, she attended Radford University from which she received her bachelor's degree in biology. She returned to Saltville where she first served as a biology teacher and later served as a librarian at Northwood High School. Mrs. Bordwine was a tough, but fair teacher who loved and encouraged her students to always strive towards being the best versions of themselves. She is preceded in death by her parents, Doris Ann Brickley Griffitts and Walter Ralph Griffitts; her special cousin, June Totten and many beloved aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law and cousins. She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Edward "Ed" Bordwine; her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth "Katie Beth" Bordwine; her granddog, Stevie Jean; special cousins, DeeDee Boyd (Bo), Darla Boger (Bob), Sharon Cahill, Jim Cahill; her brother-in-law, Johnny Bordwine (Rosalie); sister-in-law, Vanessa Cannon (Donnie); sister-in-law, Phyllis Bordwine; brother-in-law, Elbert Ray Poston; a special cousin, Nancy Mink, her stepfamily, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also leaves behind her childhood friend, Jeanne Maiden; her good neighbor, Linda Brown; her little buddy, Sheila Allison; and her dear friend, Kathy Wright, the family is eternally grateful for and would like to thank each of them for their tireless devotion to Ann. Ann Bordwine was ever faithful through adversity and remained strong and kind throughout her life's challenges. She never lost faith in Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior and spent much of her time singing along to the Gaithers in the late hours of the night when chronic pain kept her awake. Ann Bordwine was a loving wife, the best mother, a fierce friend, a tireless advocate for her community and education, and a faithful Christian woman, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Madam Russel United Methodist Church, 115 1st Ave, Saltville, VA 24370, with Pastor Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating.
