Dorothy Shonies "Shon" Clear

Dorothy Shonies "Shon" Clear, age 84, of Saltville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Shonies was one of God's most faithful servants, never missing an opportunity to share her love for the Lord. Her unwavering faith and prayers carried her family through many of life's challenges, and she remained a true testament to God's goodness, love, and grace throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Cardwell Town Free Will Baptist Church, where she faithfully served and worshiped for many years. Music was her ministry. She lived to sing and play the piano for the Lord, often sharing her signature song, "Ride Out Your Storm." Throughout the years, she lovingly played the piano for countless funerals, weddings, and at church, teaching and encouraging others. Even as her strength faded, she continued to praise God with all her heart, believing her hands were anointed to play for Him. Known lovingly as "NayNay" to her family, her home was a safe haven that was always open. She was the heart of that home, the foundation upon which their family was built. Her life revolved around her family, just as theirs revolved around her. She was a one of a kind, honest, strong-willed, and never afraid to speak her mind or tell things just the way they were, always out of love and a desire to do what was right. Though deeply missed, her influence lives on through the family and countless lives she so faithfully touched. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will be carried forward and cherished forever.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years of marriage, Robert "Bob" Wayne Clear; her parents, Eden and Vinnie Marshall; and her sister, Bessie Rouse.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Leisha Spence and husband Jeff, Karen Clear (Greg); three granddaughters, Christan Taylor and husband Brandon, Ashley Walker and late husband Will, and Chelsey Cardwell; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Karlee, Emery, Leesi, and Donovan; two brothers, John "Pud" Marshall, and T.O. Marshall; two sisters, Betty Olinger, and Orett Evans; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Elizabeth Cemetery with Pastor Mark Baumgardner officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
