Douglas “Doug” Kemper Cline, age 86, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Valley Rehab and Health in Chilhowie. Doug was born January 6, 1940 to the late William Kemper and Nancy Cox Cline. Doug faithfully attended Middle River Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD. After moving to Glade Spring, he attended Byars Cobb United Methodist Church. While living in Baltimore, he worked for Purolator as a courier, worked for Anchor Motors (General Motors) and Ryder. After moving to Glade Spring, he served as Mayor, worked faithfully for 40 years at the Glade Spring food bank, he served on the rescue squad as an EMT, and drove the blood mobile for 20 years for Johnston Memorial Hospital. Doug was a pillar of his community and was loved and respected by all that knew him. Most of all, Doug was a true man of God and he loved his family.
Including his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Cline; and his brother, Darrell Cline.
Those left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Jo Rita Dawn Cline Cansler; his son, Jerry Cline; granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Cline Hopson and husband Thomas Hopson, II; great-grandchildren, Thomas Hopson, III and wife Mackenzie, Brenden, Sarah and Lachlan Hopson; one nephew, Daniel Cline; and a host of many friends.
Funeral services for Doug Cline will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, 733 Third Avenue, Suite 510, New York, NY 10017.
