Douglas E. Harris, age 83, of Meadowview, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 14, 2025. He was born on April 7, 1942 to the late Leonard and Maggie Harris in Honaker, Virginia. Doug was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a long-time member of Smyth Chapel Church. Doug worked as a custodian at Emory and Henry College for many years until his retirement.  He had a deep love for the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, digging for ginseng in the mountains, and running dogs. Known for his strong will and tough spirit, Doug lived life on his own terms and will be remembered for his strength and independence. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Margaret Helton Harris; his son, Lee Harris; and his siblings, Henry Harris, Howard Harris, Junior Harris, Robert Harris, Betty Hamm, Marie Hamm, and Pauline Lockhardt.

Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Morgan Mable; special caregiver, nephew, and best friend, Steve Harris and his wife Pam; and many nieces and nephews; and his special companion, his dog Parker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Branson officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery.
