Edna Madeline Johnson went to her heavenly home on January 4, 2025.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and neighbor who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her.  She loved to garden and share her harvest with her neighbors, and her favorite saying was she loved to "mow, hoe, and blow".   She lived a servant life taking pride in helping anyone in need.

Madeline was born in Saltville, Va. on May 28, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, W. E. (Bill) and Brooksey Bordwine; husband Charles Johnson; sisters Melva Jean Warren and Aretta Powers; brothers Hansel "Bunt" Bordwine, Horton Bordwine, and Carson "Cart" Bordwine; and grandson Jay Totten.

Madeline is survived by her children Debbie Burge and husband Gary; Sharon "Jodi" Carrico and husband Steve; Billy "Bill" Darnell and wife Tammy; and Beverly Darnell who was also her lifelong companion and best friend.  Her sister Hilda "Babe" Davidson. Her grandchildren, Kristi Propst (Chris); Carrie Sykes (Brian); Lori Ellis (Eugene); Pamela Jenkins (Jason); Devin Darnell (Samantha); Derek Darnell (Caroline); and Alison Darnell. Great-grandchildren Harleigh Carter (Luke), Noah Sykes, Natalie Sykes, Ryan Ellis, Anna Ellis, Cash Jenkins, and James Darnell.  She will be greatly missed by her feathered baby, Chaco.

The family wishes to thank the hospice caregivers for their loving care especially Krissie, Tim, Brittney, and Sharon.  A special thank you to her niece, Sheila Goff.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 7, from 12:00 to 2:00 at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 with Greg Carrico officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Va. Pallbearers will be Devin Darnell, Derek Darnell, Steve Carrico, Gary Burge, Chris Propst, Eugene Ellis, and Brian Sykes.  Honorary pallbearers are Mike Dorsey and David Jackson.
