Edward "Ed" Ray Johnson, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. Ed was retired from U S Steel where he worked as a mechanic and maintenance foreman for 20 years. He was a good mechanic and loved working on vehicles which was also his hobby. Ed was always ready to help anyone in need and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed going fishing and loved going to the senior citizens to play bingo. Most of all, he loved his family and the family get-togethers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann Bingham Johnson; parents, Charlie Ray and Ethel Martha Jones Johnson; brothers; Charles Johnson, Marvin Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Harold Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Claude Johnson; Sisters, Victoria Johnson, Virginia Beavers, Lydia Davis, Annie Davis, Betty Ashley, and Louise Norris.
Left to cherish his memory is one son, Victor Johnson and wife Mary of Roanoke, VA; three daughters, Sharon Finley Chester of Kenly, NC, Peggy Johnson Davis and husband Jimmy of Roxboro, NC, and Edwina Hinson and husband Kenneth of Matthews, NC; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren; and a special companion, Ruth Osborne. The family would like to extend their gratefulness to his special friend, Justin Holmes for all the many things that he did for Ed.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, VA. with Rev. Denny Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, VA. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Christopher Hart, Zach Hart, Brian Finley, Dylon Jacovitch, Thomas Jacovitch., and Richard Ewers. Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Holmes.
