Obituary

Elmer Wayne Waddle

Chilhowie, VA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elmer Wayne Waddle, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on December 18, 2024, after bravely battling health issues for several years. During his illness he made his most important life decision which was giving his heart to the Lord. He was born on September 19, 1943, to the late Elmer and Nellie Waddle in Chatham Hill, Virginia. He was a wonderful person with a caring heart who always put his family and friends first. He had a special way of making everyone feel loved and valued, often reaching out with a phone call to check in and brighten their day. Known for his sense of humor, Wayne loved to make people laugh and never met a stranger. Wayne dedicated 32 years of his professional life as an agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance. Before that, he served his community as a deputy sheriff for six years and he also served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve for 15 years. He was a member of the William King Lodge No. 227.  Outside of his work and service, Wayne's greatest joy was his family, whom he loved more than anything. He always had a passion for coon hunting, a pastime he cherished and shared with loved ones. Wayne's kindness, sense of humor and caring heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Johnny D. Waddle.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years of marriage, Donna Wyatt Waddle; his three sons, Greg Waddle and wife Kyli, Travis Waddle and Leah, and Rhudy Wyatt and wife Elma; his grandson who was his pride and joy, Eli Wayne Waddle; brother, Danny Waddle and wife Vicki; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Colston; brothers-in-law, Jim Wyatt and wife Brenda, and Robert Junior Wyatt; special lifelong friends, William Doss, and Walter Allison; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends; and his sidekick, his dog, Rocky.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Ridgedale cemetery with Pastor Mack Blevins officiating. There will be military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and also the V.F.W. Post #4467. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
