Obituary

Saltville, VA

Elsie Brickey Hogston Adams, a remarkable woman who lived a full and meaningful life, passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on January 3, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and independence that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. She was born on August 11, 1924 to the late Robert F. and Maxie Brickey. She was a proud 1943 graduate of Rich Valley High School. Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family was at the center of Elsie's world, and she carried the weight of their well-being on her caring shoulders. Always the worrier, she showed her love by being a constant source of support and concern for those she held dear. She was a Christian who loved attending Chilhowie Church of God with her church family. One of Elsie's greatest joys was her love for bluegrass music. She especially loved listening to her son play the banjo, and also going to the "Smyth County Jam". Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ryburn Hogston, her second husband, Ralph Adams; and siblings, Charles Brickey, Judith Roberts, Nell Hodge, Pearl Talbert, Jack Price, and Blanche Minton as well as one stepson Ralph "Buddy" Adams.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Larry Hogston and wife Sandy, Doug Hogston and wife Martha "Marty"; her grandson, Adam McKinley Hogston and wife Kim; great-granddaughter, Kinley Hogston; brother, Ronnie Brickey; several nieces and nephews; step daughter-in-law Pam Adams; step grandson Jeremy "Buddy" Adams and Becky; step grand daughter Lisa Adams McCroskey and James and several step great grandchildren.
