Eva Mcnew
Dixon
Feb 18, 1947 — Feb 18, 2026
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
— 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
Marion, Virginia
Eva McNew Dixon, age 79, went to sleep and woke in Heaven on February 18, 2026.
Eva was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and a servant's heart as big as they come. As a courageous cancer survivor, she showed everyone around her grace and determination, never allowing hardship to dim her kindness or her love for others. For many years, she was a devoted member of Chilhowie Baptist Church, where she faithfully taught Sunday School. Eva had a special gift for sharing God's Word. Her church family meant the world to her. Her hands were rarely still. She was known throughout the community for her sewing. Whether it was mending something worn, crafting something beautiful, or helping someone in need, she poured her heart into every thread. Many people will forever treasure the things she made, knowing they were given with genuine care. She was also a big fan of Jeff Gordon and looked forward to race days, cheering him on with excitement. At home, her sweet cat, Toby, was always close by to bring her comfort and plenty of smiles over the years. Eva will be remembered for her strong faith, her loving heart, and the many quiet ways she made life better for others.
The family would like to give special thanks for the love and care provided by Mary Ann Trivett, Lou Philis Rodriguez, and Evelyn McBride.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert "Bob" and Katherine Stanley McNew, and her brother, Bobby Jr.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Sheila Richardson and husband, Tony, of Marion, Va.; her son, Stacy Dixon of Wytheville, Va.; her sister, Ernestine "Tina" Jackson and husband, Jay, of Max Meadows, Va.; sister-in-law, Virginia McNew of Marion, Va.; three special sisters of the heart, Nancy Smith and Dixie Hunt, both of Saltville, Va., and Carol Mitchell of Marion, Va.; grandchildren, Amber Dixon Sanzaro, Erin Ring, Laci Dixon, Seth Guy, and Hunter and Tanner Richardson; and numerous nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Chilhowie Baptist Church, 625 E. Lee Hwy, Chilhowie, VA 24319. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cody Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow at Falls Hill Cemetery, 27347 N. Fork River Rd., Saltville, VA 24370.
Pallbearers will be Tony Richardson, Jay Jackson, Seth Guy, Harold Stanley, Dwight Shupe and Eddie Heldreth with Peter Ventresca serving as honorary.
