Fred Litton DeBusk, 68, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Wytheville, Virginia. He was born on October 9, 1956, in Saltville, Virginia and is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Frye DeBusk.
Fred built his career early, as a farmer and master contractor, later becoming the owner of Hartwood Supply, a lumber and hardware store in Saltville. Most recently, Fred was employed by Davis Valley Winery and L.A.S Construction. Fred loved to work hard and was known as the man who could fix, build, or figure out anything. His skills were matched only by his creativity, as he was the mastermind behind Woolly Mammoth, Saltville's beloved mascot.
Fred is survived by his two daughters, Lindsay Allison (Andy) and Jess DeBusk (Jessica Austin) and his grandchildren: Justin, Audrey, Oliver, Hazel, and Laurel. He is also survived by his brother Jay, sister Sandy, special nephews, John-John DeBusk and Ben DeBusk, and special friends, Jacquelynn and Cole Martin, Rick and Christina Roop, Rusty Cox, Ron Orr, Greg Griffin and many others.
Fred's funeral will be held at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, VA on July 31, 2025. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a celebration of life at 7:00, led by his family and special friend, Pastor Mike Maiden.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Museum of Middle Appalachians, honoring Fred's love for community and history. Contributions can be made online at www.museumofthemiddleapplachians.org.
