Garry Eugene Hammond, 67, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 11, 2024. Born on March 19, 1957, in Abingdon, Garry was a devoted member of the Allison Gap First Church of God. A proud 1975 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School, Garry dedicated 42 years of his life working at Bristol Compressors until his retirement. He cherished the relationships he built there, considering his work family as an extension of his own. After his retirement he worked as a part time employee for Abingdon Auto Auction. Family meant everything to Garry. His two nieces and great-niece were like his own children, and he took pride in being a "Uncle G." He was a true outdoorsman, passionate about hunting, fishing, hiking, and capturing the beauty of nature through photography. Garry was also an enthusiastic Tennessee Volunteers fan, always enjoying a good tailgate with friends. A lover of classic rock, Garry was a big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. His love for music and the simple joys of life brought happiness to those around him. He will be remembered for his warm heart, loyalty, and deep love for his family, friends, and work family. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Eugene Hammond.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Zenobia M. Hammond; the love of his life, Lisa Rolen; his brother, Scott Hammond and wife Paula; his two nieces, Morgan and Megan Hammond; and great niece, Maisie.

Funeral services for Garry will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Dunn and Pastor Bobby Dunn officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville.
