Gary Eugene
Griffey
Feb 11, 1958 — Feb 20, 2025
Rich Valley, VA
Gary Eugene Griffey, age 67 of Rich Valley, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, whose kindness and love touched the lives of many. A lifelong farmer, Gary took great pride in working the land, growing crops, tending to his garden, and raising chickens. His love for the outdoors was evident from a young age, spending many years hunting and fishing before later developing his passion for nature and wildlife photography. Gary was a man of deep faith and attended Open Arms Fellowship, where he found great joy in worshiping and sharing fellowship with his church family. He had a heart for spreading God's love, always carrying small Jesus figurines with him and giving them to everyone he could as a reminder of faith and hope. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or give someone encouragement. He will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie E. Griffey; his grandparents, Robert and Mamie Hayden, and Arch and Lula Griffey; and also, several aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 47 years of marriage, Sharon Griffey; his son, Greg Griffey; his mother, Nancy Griffey; his siblings, Deborah Buchanan and husband David, Carl Griffey and wife Missy, Robin Lloyd and husband Bobby, Julie Prater and husband Eric, Carol Griffey, and Archie S. Griffey and wife Wanda; several nieces and nephews; special nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and his church family at Open Arms Fellowship.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Open Arms Fellowship with Pastor Doug Haga officiating. The burial will follow at Chatham Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville.
