George Dewey Robbins, Sr.

George Dewey Robbins, Sr., age 69, entered into his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 after a courageous battle with complications from diabetes. He was an avid sports fan who was affecting known as "½ & ½ George". The monies he raised was used to feed the youth of the town. A community volunteer for Northwood High School Athletics, Saltville Little League, Rich Valley Fair Association, Lions Club, and The Saltville Labor Day Celebration. He was most proud of the building of the North Holston Picnic and Playground Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lee and Mary M. Robbins; brothers, Junior Robbins, and Thurman Robbins; sister, Joyce Olinger and husband David; and brother-in-law, James Broyles.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Janice C. Robbins; two sons, George Robbins, Jr. and wife Angela, and Michael Robbins; grandchildren, Hunter (Taylor), Josh, Brianna, Michael, and Eli; great-grandsons, Karsyn and Carter; brother, Stuart Robbins and wife Frances; sister, Merkie Broyles; sisters-in-law, Elsie Robbins, Debbie Poe and husband Donnie, Bertha Sykes and husband Dennis; brothers-in-law, Bobby Collins and wife Diane, Kenny Collins and wife Michelle; also his nieces and nephews, Russell Robbins (KK), Mary Ellen DeBord (Darrell), Gloria Sexton (David), Carolyn Hamby (Joey), Mandy Ball (Scott), James Broyles (Amy), Tim Broyles (Jeannie), Freddie Broyles (Casey), Melissa Greer (Chris), Angela Thomas (Freddie), Rachel Terry (Jimbo); several other relatives, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Collins officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville, VA.
