Mrs. Georgia Alice McNew Holmes, age 86, of Saltville, VA died November 13th, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Georgia was born on November 20th, 1936 in Blackwell's Chapel. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Sam Holmes, her parents Houston and Virgie McNew and sister Myrtle McNew. Georgia lived a full life caring for her family, her church and all who knew her. She was the best cook around, even though she always said "it's not fit to eat". She was a faithful member of the Saltville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Jeannie Austin (Wayne) who lovingly and faithfully cared for her in her final months of life. Her younger daughter Janet Leedy (Marty). Her grandchildren who she adored Lindsey Austin Reddersen (Brian), Tony Woods (Jessica), Lesley Austin Pennington (Chad), and Bo Woods. Her great-grandchildren Mackenzie Woods, Blaine Woods, Caroline Reddersen, Brayden Woods, Abby Woods, her namesake Georgia Ellyson Pennington, Colton Woods, and Carson Reddersen. Her brothers and sisters, Geneva Louthen, Roy McNew, and Alan McNew. Special niece Debbie Dye and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Saltville Baptist Church with Rev. John Chapman and Pastor Dan Jividen officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Blackwell Chapel Cemetery in Meadowview, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saltville Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association to help combat this terrible disease.
