Harold "Bill"
William Haynes
Jun 16, 1948 — Dec 13, 2023
Saltville, Va.
On December 13, 2023, our Bill left us to join family and friends who had gone on before him. Bill was born June 16, 1948. He was a life long resident of Saltville and a graduate from R. B. Worthy High School. He did as much for the community as he could. He was a member of the Saltville Labor Day Committee for 14 years. Bill helped write the grant that got the funding for the town's stage to be built where he loved watching crowds enjoy all of the committee's hard work. Bill was a former driver for Moss Trucking. His favorite job; however, was as the owner of Troutman's Store in Saltville, where he loved sitting around with all of his friends that would come through.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dexter "Dec" Haynes; grandparents, Huston and Virgie McNew, and Bill and Emma Haynes; mother and father-in law, Dora Agnes and Landon McAllister.
Bill is survived by his loving and caring wife of 54 years, Sue; his two daughters and son-in-law that he was so proud of, Brandi Atkins and husband Dave, and Kelley Haynes; his mother and step-father, Geneva and Tommy Louthen; sisters, Sue Anderson of Roanoke, Martha Rickman and husband Carly, Lori Ann Lynch and husband Brian of Saltville; sister-in-law, Ruby Fields of Chilhowie; and brother-in-law, Johnny Fudge of Roanoke; uncles who were like brothers, Roy and Allen McNew; special life long friend, Tom Carter; several nieces and nephews; the gang from Troutman's Store, and his beloved cat, Binx.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, TN for the care of Bill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Haynes officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Saltville Labor Day Committee, Saltville Town Hall, c/o Tammy Woodward, P. O. Box 730, Saltville, VA 24370.
