Harriet Evelyn Necessary, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Bristol Rehab and Memory Care in Bristol, VA. Harriet was raised in War West Virginia and a graduate of Big Creek High school where she was a proud "Owl". She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Harriet enjoyed music and the arts, reading literature, poetry, biographies, and histories. She was even a published poet. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Rozinel M. Altizer; her husband, Kenneth W. Necessary, Sr.; two daughters, Jennifer Elaine Necessary, and Joni N. Lamie; four brothers, John, Don, Tommy, and Bill Altizer; two sisters, Ginny Smallwood, and Francis Galante.
She is survived by her two sons, Todd Necessary, and Kenneth W. "Gus" Necessary, Jr. and wife Kandis; one daughter, Lana M. Harrison and husband Joe; sister, Shelva Jeanne Ruszin; four grandchildren, Walker Necessary, Rebecca Pearson, and Hunter and Tyler Harrison; one great-granddaughter, Grace Pearson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Andrews officiating. The burial will follow at the Necessary Family Cemetery in Tannersville, VA. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
