Hobert "H" Holmes Cook, Jr.
Rich Valley, VA
Hobert "H" Holmes Cook, Jr., age 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born on December 6, 1941 to the late Hobert Cook, Sr. and Virgie Gillespie Cook. "H" was a graduate of Rich Valley High School, Class of 1959. He furthered his education graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, with a B.S. in Agriculture and always remained a proud Hokie Alumni. After completing his studies, "H" dedicated himself to serving others, first as a teacher in the Smyth County School System for three years. He then transitioned to a fulfilling career as a federal employee at the Job Corp where he devoted 33 years of his life teaching and helping young adults through a program sponsored by the Forest Service. Despite his successful career he remained deeply connected to his roots, eventually returning to save his cherished family farm. He had a passion for Agriculture and was a member of the Farmers Club and also the Rich Valley Fair Association. His appreciation for nature extended beyond his professional life; he found great pleasure in hunting and spending time outdoors. His infectious laughter, good sense of humor, and his compassionate guidance will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings, his brother, Charles "Bill" William Cook; and his two sisters, Mary Cook Sanders and husband Willis, and Patsy Cook.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 years, Nyoka Talbert Cook. Together they built a life filled with love and precious memories. He also leaves behind his brother, Jim Cook and wife Toby; his sister, Peggy Taylor and husband C.B.; sister-in-law, Christine Taylor Cook; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Benita Smith and husband Don; nephew, James Lee Cook and wife Anslee; niece, Catherine Cook Akers and husband Todd; great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Barney Clear and Randy Harris; and many dear friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Ridgedale UMC Cemetery with Rev. Terry Frye officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 1:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home prior to the procession to the cemetery.
