Iva "Nell" Griffitts Whitely

Iva "Nell' Griffitts Whitely, age 90, of Saltville, VA went to be with the Lord and her dearly missed husband Campbell on September 21st, 2022. She was born on November 18th, 1931 in Saltville, VA. She was a graduate of Rich Valley High School Class of 1948. Nell worked as a pharmacy assistant at Matheson Pharmacy and Snowden's Pharmacy throughout her life. She was an amazing cook and never needed a recipe, only cooking by heart. She loved tending to her red porch geraniums, sewing, shelling walnuts, gardening, and hunting for mushrooms and crystal quartz. She was a member of Roberts Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John "Campbell" Whitely; daughter-in-law, Sherri Carpenter Whitely; parents, Frank Samuel Griffitts and Nannie May Taylor Griffitts; sisters, Kathleen Harris (husband Norman), Eleanor Lamie (husband Norman), Mildred Hess (husband Oscar), Ruth Patrick (husband Robert); brothers, WR "Ralph" Griffitts, Paul Griffitts, Frank D Griffitts (wife Thelma), and William "Billy" Griffitts (wife Francis).

Nell is survived by her son, Steve Whitely of Saltville VA; granddaughter, Erin Whitely Adkins (husband Jonathan) ;and great-grandsons, Vova and Kyrylo Adkins of Winston Salem, NC; sister-in-law, Jean Francis Crabtree of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Christine Griffitts; and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family that kindly helped take care of Nell over the years.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Mount Rose Cemetery with Pastor Mike Andrews officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Henderson Funeral Home from 12 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the procession to the cemetery.
