James Roy Bowman, Jr., age 40, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. James was born in Newport News, Virginia on November 23, 1984. He was a fun-loving person with a big sense of humor. He was a jokester who loved to make others laugh. James never met a stranger. He enjoyed being with his family, riding his motorcycle, drawing, and you could always find him woodworking with his dad.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Opal Riley; his grandparents, Ben and Juanita Phipps, and Haskell and Pansie Bowman; sister, Angel Bowman; uncles, Ronnie and Larry Boothe, Bobby, Bane, and Larry Bowman; and cousins, Bobby Ray Bowman, and David Wyatt, Jr.

He is survived by his parents, James and Darlene Bowman; his wife, Jessica Bowman; his two children, James "J.T." Timothy Bowman, and Katelyn "Katy" Cheyenne Bowman; his brother, Ben Bowman; three sisters, Heather Bowman and fiancé James Pennington, Rachael Spence and husband Cory, and Patricia McCall and fiancé Ricky; mother-in-law, Trish Daugherty; nieces and nephews, Savannah McCall, Jason "LJ" McCall, Kelsea Dowell, Christopher Dowell, Gunnar Spence, and Cory Spence, Jr.; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and special friends, T.J. Pennington, Tyler Owens, Jeffrey Gates, and the Ketchum family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards funeral expenses.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Haga officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 1 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow at Sluss Family Cemetery in Tazewell, Virginia. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Bowman, L.J. McCall, Cory Spence, James Pennington, Michael Blevins, Dean Spence, Ronnie Bowman, Jeffrey Gates, and Brandon Bowman. Honorary pallbearers are Joe McVey, Jerry Bowman, J.R. Bowman, Daniel Armstrong, Ronnie Bowman, Jr., George Bowman and Bobby Joe Bowman.
