James McArthur Doane (Jimmy), 82 went to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday, November 16, 2024, following kidney failure the past three years.

He was born the sixth of ten children to Joseph and Mabel (Worley) Doane on January 24, 1942, in Rich Valley, Virginia. Jimmy was a 1960 graduate of Rich Valley High School. He was an employee of Westinghouse Manufacturing Company for 25 years and the Town of Chilhowie for 25 years. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family.

Jimmy was a kind and giving man, with a great sense of humor. He loved his many friends and family and once said "if you don't have friends, you don't have anything".  He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden as well as playing and watching Sports. He spent his younger years playing for several local adult men's softball teams and his later years playing corn hole whenever he could.

He attended worship service at Midway Memorial Chapel in Saltville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Joe Doane, Betty Doane, Mildred Olinger, Rachael Kestner, Bobby Doane, Donald Doane and Claudine Kestner, as well as many special brothers-in-law, nephews and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 60 years Judy (Wilson) Doane, Chilhowie, VA; his three sons, Joe Doane, Chilhowie, VA, Tim (Tippy) Doane, Abingdon, VA, Steve (Vanessa) Doane, Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren Aaron Doane, Abingdon, VA, Ethan Doane, Abingdon, VA, Jacob Doane, Destin, Florida,  Jennifer Doane, Knoxville, TN; his sisters, Daphne McCready, Saltville, VA and Rita (Bobby) Rupe, Rural Retreat, VA. as well as his good friends Fred Somervell,  and Randy Sullivan; as well as many special brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Jimmy Doane will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2024, at Midway Memorial Chapel in Saltville with Pastor Gary Evans and Pastor Bob Neace officiating.  The family will receive friends form 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Randy Sullivan, John Joannou, George Olinger, Aaron Doane, Ethan Doane, and Randy McCready.

The family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care, Johnston Memorial Hospital, Bristol Hospice House, Trinity Ambulance Service, and Dr. William Handy for the special care given to Jimmy.
