James Robert Mitchell, age 51, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

James was an outdoor enthusiast loving to hunt, fish, and enjoy the beauty of nature.  He was a Christian man that loved his Lord.  James was a very selfless man, hardworking, and loved his family and he was loved by everyone.

James was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Mitchell, Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Olivene and James Walker Hunt; his paternal grandparents, Sadie and Oscar Mitchell, Sr.

Those left to cherish his memory is his mother, Connie Hunt Trent; his sons, Dale Mitchell and wife Shelby, and Westley Mitchell and wife Tiffany; one sister, Sarah Lorraine Mitchell; his loving grandchildren, Presley Mitchell, Eli Mitchell, Isaac Mitchell, Westlyn Mitchell, Madison Mitchell, and Skylynn Mitchell; and many friends.

Funeral services for James Robert Mitchell will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Saltville, Va.  Those serving as pallbearers will be Dale Mitchell, Westley Mitchell, Levi Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Michael Moore, and Jimmy Hunt.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Levi and Joel Mitchell, and the third-floor nursing staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital for all the wonderful care they gave to James.
