Janice Faye Carter, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. She was born October 27, 1946.

She was the daughter of Charles William Carter and Margaret Allison Carter.

Janice was a graduate of R. B. Worthy Highschool. After taking the Civil Service Test, she moved to Washington D. C. and worked for the federal government for 52 years, retiring in 2018.

She returned home to her beloved hometown in 2020. Her career began at the FBI and ended as a Management & Program Analyst for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Working on the Patent and Trademark Office Budget was a year-round job, but she loved it. Janice also was a volunteer for many years for the White House Greetings Office, sending cards for birthday, wedding anniversaries, graduations, & religious milestones.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God of Alexandria Virginia.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Lana Carter Atkins and husband Jim, Kathy Carter Hogston, Charlie Carter and wife Tammy, and Michael Smith.

Survivors include sister Judy Carter Gillespie and husband W.T., brother Thomas Carter and wife Brenda, brother-in-law Curtis Hogston & sister-in-law Mariane Trombly. Nieces and nephews: Tracy Carter, Travis Hogston, C.C. Hogston, Brad Atkins, Hillary Carter Brown, Adam Carter, Madison Patrick, and Thomas Smith.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026 at Elizabeth Cemetery with Preston Brickey officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Henderson Funeral Home from 10 until 10:30 prior to the procession to the cemetery.
