Obituary

Saltville, Virginia

J.D. “John Deere” Blevins, age 78, laid down his earthly tools and began helping build the mansions of Heaven on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

J.D., affectionately known throughout Saltville as “John Deere,” was a hardworking, brilliant, and kindhearted man who never met a stranger. He was a loving father, son, brother, papaw, friend, and neighbor who was well known and loved throughout his community. From the young age of 13, J.D. began working in construction, building houses and developing a remarkable knowledge of the trade. He was a talented craftsman who could put his mind and hands to just about anything. Through years of hard work and dedication, he helped build countless homes, leaving behind not only the fruits of his labor but also a lasting mark on the community he called home. J.D. was never one to shy away from a hard day's work, and he took great pride in what he did. Above all else, J.D. was a man of strong Christian faith who loved the Lord with all his heart. No matter what challenges came his way, J.D. always looked to God for strength, comfort, and direction. When he wasn't busy working, he loved a good game of horseshoes, spending time fishing, and enjoying the company of family and friends. After a lifetime spent building homes here on earth, J.D. has now gone home with the Lord, where the work is finished and the burdens are lifted.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason William Blevins; parents, Claudie and Ruby Mae Blevins; sister, Betty Lou Stallard; and brothers, Awney, James, Elmer, and Joe Blevins.

J.D. is survived by his daughter, Genevive “Ginny” Blevins; brothers, Ervin and Paul Daniel Blevins; grandchildren, Austin Cole Blevins and Nevaeh Swift; great-grandchildren, Wrenleigh Love Blevins, Knoxleigh Salyers, and Everleigh Evans; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family members and friends.

In keeping with J.D.’s wishes, there will be no public services.
