Jerry Lee Mitchell, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2026, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Saltville on January 2, 1953.Jerry was full of life and deeply loved his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. A true provider, Jerry worked tirelessly to care for those he loved and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He spent many years as a truck driver and even owned and operated his own trucking business, Mitchell Express, which took him traveling all across the country. No matter how far his travels carried him, his heart was always with his family. Above all else, Jerry loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his life as a faithful Christian man. He was a member of the Church of Jesus and loved attending and worshiping. Jerry had a special gift for gardening and was known for joyfully giving most of it away to others. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing, but nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family. Jerry will be remembered for his generous spirit, strong faith, and the love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar G. Mitchell, Sr. and Sadie Hayden Mitchell; one sister, Mary Wyatt and husband Bill; and three brothers, Oscar "Junie" Mitchell, Jr., Wesley Mitchell, and Robert Mitchell.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 35 years of marriage, Delores Mitchell; his four children, Laura "Lori" Hanshew and husband Danny, Wendell Grizzle and wife Charlene, Calvin Grizzle and fiancé Crystal Rittenhouse, and Westley Mitchell and wife Tiffany; his siblings, Wayne Mitchell, Retha Moore, Ellen Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell and Amy Mitchell; eleven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Isaac Johnson officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will follow at the Elizabeth Cemetery.
