Obituary

Jerry Darnell Poe, age 69, of Adwolfe, VA, went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2025. He was born in Smyth County, Virginia, to the late Kyle and Carrie Poe.

Jerry was a faithful Christian and was proud to be saved by his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Cedars Baptist church, where he loved playing the guitar. His music brought joy to many and was a reflection of his kind and generous spirit. He was a 1974 graduate of Marion Senior High school.

He was a devoted father and grandfather—known lovingly as "Papaw." His family could always count on him for support, encouragement, and unconditional love. Jerry was the kind of person who made everyone feel seen and cared for. He was a hard worker and had a very strong work ethic.

Full of life and creativity, Jerry had a big personality. He loved to joke, make people laugh, and was known for his clever wit and big imagination. Whether he was sharing a funny story or playing a prank, he always had a way of brightening the room.

Jerry enjoyed gardening and had a special love for growing tomatoes. He once trained in Tai Quan Do, and he always had a sense of curiosity and adventure. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his beloved dog, Minnie, who was always by his side.

Jerry's warmth, humor, and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Poe; and his beloved dog, Natalie.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Mashasta Carrico of Marion, VA; his son, Jordan Poe and wife Michelle of Georgia; grandchildren, Courtland Carrico of Pulaski, VA, Trinity Carrico of Chilhowie, VA, Isaac Carrico of Marion, VA, Nora Poe, Oliver Poe, and Henry Poe all of Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

The family would like to give special thanks and gratitude for all of the friends and family who have loved and cared for Jerry. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Jones and Pastor Jason Mullinax officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. His final resting place will be at Grosses Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
