Jerry Lee Short, a dedicated and hardworking man, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born in Buchanan County on June 29, 1942, to the late Stuart and Bernice Short. Jerry spent his life working in the coal mining industry, with commitment and strong work ethic. He was known for always staying busy, even after his career whether it was still working at home or tending to his well-manicured yard. He was an avid outdoorsman, Jerry found joy in bow hunting and spending time in nature. He was a straightforward individual, known for his honesty and directness. Above all, Jerry was a family man, always looking out for the ones he loved.

Jerry's legacy of hard work, love for the outdoors, and devotion to his family will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue Short; and two siblings, Jerlene Salyers and Jimmy Short.

Left to cherish his memory is his fiancé, Shirley Jackson; his two children, Kathy Short, and Jerry Short, Jr. and wife Shalai; two brothers, Jack and John Short; two sisters, Janet Boyd, and Judy Atkinson; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jerry Lee Short will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Garrett Officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at Esau Rife Cemetery. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery. Jerry Short, Jr., Dakota Short, Dylan Short, Alex Tolbert, Jonathan Sanders, and Dean Call will be serving as pallbearers.
