John Franklin Burgess, Sr. Saltville, VA John Franklin Burgess, Sr., age 67, of Saltville, VA, went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on September 21, 1953, the son of Edward Franklin Burgess and Eunice Tuggle Burgess. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Ricky Burgess. John leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Patty Rhea Burgess; his children, Regina Counts and John "Byrd" Burgess, Jr.; son in law, Chris Counts and daughter in law, Lori Burgess. The loves of his life, his grandchildren, Madison Counts and Tucker Burgess and his fur baby Buttercup. His sister; Ann Boardwine and husband Dean; his brothers, Curtis Burgess and wife Debbie; David Burgess and Charles Burgess; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was retired from General Dynamics and loving life. He spent his time with his children and grandchildren. He loved attending any activity his granddaughter and grandson were involved in. He was the best Dad and Papaw anyone could ask for. He loved working on his farm and playing Rook with his lifelong friends. He enjoyed his Friday morning breakfast meetings with his old work crew. John will be missed by everyone he knows. The family would like to give a special thanks to the PCU and ICU staff at Johnson City Medical Center for the care he received. A graveside service will be conducted at Mount Rose Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 with Pastor Donnie Bailey officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery and follow the Covid-19 guidelines. Serving as Pallbearers will be; John Burgess, Jr., Chris Counts, Curtis Williams, Eric Rolen, R.T.
