John Edward Pennington, age 79, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2024. John was born March 6, 1945, in Saltville, Va. to the late John Curtis and Stella Estep Pennington. Including his parents, he was also preceded by his wife, JoAnne Pennington.
John was retired from Philip Morris International, Inc. where he worked many years as an electrician. After retirement, he moved back to his hometown of Saltville in April 2000. He enjoyed riding around and taking in the beautiful mountain scenery and looking for deer. He was an avid fisherman and liked to fish in rivers and streams both fresh water and salt water. John loved RC Car Racing and was always ready to compete.
More than anything, John loved his family and those left to cherish his wonderful memory are his wife, Doris Sturgill Pennington; son, Curtis Pennington, and stepson, Mike Moore and wife Rhonda; one sister, Joyce Speer of Salem, VA; grandchildren, Justin Pennington, Gregory Pennington, and step grandson, Hunter Moore; and great grandson, Joshua Pennington.
Funeral services for John Edward Pennington will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville with Pastor Mark Baumgardner officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Middle Fork Cemetery in Chilhowie, Va.
