Karen Sue Roark Saltville, VA Karen Sue (Call) Roark, 59, of Saltville, VA. stepped out of her earthly body and put on her robe of white on Friday, January 14th, 2022. On December 29th, 1962, Karen was born to James "Jim" Edward Call and Emma Lee (Kestner) Call. She had a wonderful childhood and was raised in a very loving home. A graduate from R.B. Worthy High in Saltville in 1981, which is also the same year she married Joey Michael Roark, her longtime sweetheart whom she had known since childhood in the very same community where she grew up - Buckeye Hollow. Amongst all the different roles in her lifetime, there were four in particular that she excelled & took great pride in and gave it all she had. First, was being a good wife. All 40 years of her marriage, she remained totally committed & faithful until her husband's sudden and tragic death in March 2021. Another achievement was when she became a mother in 1982 to her only child, Jamie Michael Roark. They had an inseperable bond that grew stronger and stronger and was never broken. One of her many occupations was being a Human Services worker at a local emergency placement shelter for juvenile males. It was here that she discovered her gift of reaching the troubled and broken. She thrived and thoroughly enjoyed this job at Mt. Roger's Shelter Home in Atkins, VA for over 13 years. And then also there was her role of being responsible for cleaning duties at Buckeye Hollow Holiness Church. She had this responsibility for more than 20 years and took it seriously down to the details. She was about cleanliness and keeping things organized. Many times, she would take some of her pay and buy songbooks, carpet, and Sunday School supplies. This was her selfless nature. To truly live by the motto, "Always stay humble & kind." She will be missed by many. Some of her special friends through the years include Oliver Tolbert, Randy Hunt, Zola Debord, Pam Caudell, Ann Boardwine, Teresa Hogston and many more. Additional to her only child, she was also a "Momma #2" to Joshua Chambers in which she had a very special place in her heart for. Additional to humans, she has always had a love for animals, especially her 14 cats that she had rescued and spoiled rotten. Karen is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harley and Bertha Call; her maternal grandparents, Fred Lee Kestner and Gladola (Hayden) Kestner; her father, James "Jim" Edward Call; her husband of 40 years, Joey Michael Roark. She is survived by her mother, Emma Lee (Kestner) Call and her son, Jamie Michael Roark. Karen was a lifelong member of Buckeye Hollow Holiness Church and also a member of Midway Memorial Chapel. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Henderson Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Hunt officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. The burial will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
