Saltville, Va.

Larry "Windel" Gates, age 65, passed away Sunday, December 17th, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Saltville, Virginia and was a graduate of R.B. Worthy High School. He was known for his skill and fine workmanship of hanging and finishing drywall. Larry was a member of Friends Community Church in Saltville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen Gates; sisters, Jane Kestner and husband R.C., Betty Roberts and Glenda Cline; brothers, Bobby Gates, Roger Gates and wife Brenda, brother-in-law Rodney Allison of Saltville, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

Larry is survived by sisters, Freda Dinsmore and husband Wayne of Saltville, Virginia, Cathy Barrett and husband Neal of Tannersville, Virginia and Diane Allison of Saltville, Virginia; brother, Con Gates of Glade Spring, Virginia, sister-in-law Reba Gates of Saltville, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Friends Community Church in Saltville with Pastor Mike Maiden officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Scotty and Amanda French, Mike Maiden and Jeff Woodward for all their love and support over the years.
