Laura McGhee (Lester) Cardwell Cline, age 87, of Saltville, passed peacefully at Hospice House of Bristol, TN, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 4:45 pm. She was of the Baptist faith, and a member of Mt. Pleasant Union Church of Saltville. She was preceded in death by her parents, James "Jim" Lester and Cansadia Octavia (Dinkins) Lester Sheppard; her brother Howard Lester; one half-brother, Edward Sheppard; and two half-sisters, Irene Shelton and Pearl Repass; and her first husband, Clarence Lee Cardwell, Saltville. She had worked at General Electric, Ill, Valley Nursing Home, Chilhowie, as a nurse's aide and later in housekeeping, volunteered at Baptist Children's Home, Salem, and volunteered as a Band Booster for several years at Rich Valley High School, Saltville. She was a faithful donor to several local and national charities including St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

She is survived by her second husband Doug K. Cline; one devoted daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Cardwell) Armstrong, Abingdon; one loving son, John Thomas "Tommy" Cardwell and daughter-in-law, Gracie (Olinger) Cardwell, Appomattox; one stepdaughter, JoRita Chancellor, Glade Spring, and one step-son, Jerry Cline, Milwaukee, WI; one sister, Sadie Irene (Lester) Pickle Bise and husband Lowell, Glade Spring; three grandchildren, M. Allen Armstrong, Boise, ID, Sara Grace Cardwell, Morgantown, WV, and Hanna Joy Cardwell, Shillington, PA. She is survived by five great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Ethan Armstrong, and Samuel Cole, Lacey Grace and Morgan Leann Watkins.

Graveside services for Laura McGhee Cline will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at Mount Pleasant Union Church Cemetery in Saltville, Va. with Pastor Bob Neace officiating.  Johnny Pickle, Jerry Ferguson, Tommy Cardwell, and Rex DeBord will serve as pallbearers.  The family will leave the funeral home at 10:30 and will go in procession to the cemetery.
