Lee Wayne Abel, Sr.

Chilhowie, VA

Lee Wayne Abel, Sr. age 74, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Little Valley Christian Church in Tannersville, VA. Lee was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid bear hunter and was also a member of Thompson Valley Bear Hunters. In his free time, he enjoyed volunteering at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Chilhowie, VA. He loved all of his family dearly, but especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida Abel.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years of marriage, Nellie Abel of the home; five children, Sara Barron of Chilhowie, VA, Leah Blevins and husband Ricky of Marion, VA, Sonia Haga of Marion, VA, Georgia Patrick and husband Steve of Rural Retreat, VA, Lee Abel, Jr. and wife Beth of Cripple Creek, VA; special grandson who was raised as a son, Michael Abel; two brothers, Charlie and Randal Abel; three sisters, Lois Delorto, and Gerlene and Vicie Jones; fifteen grandchildren, Daniel Combs, Sandy Spencer, Madison Blevins, Kenzie Blevins, Colton Blevins, Cody Haga, Forrest Haga, Alyssa Fisher, Brian Patrick, Chris Patrick, Wyatt Patrick, Curtis Abel, Caleb Dalton, Jacob Dalton, and Jackson Abel; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Dunham officiating. The burial will follow at the Osborne Family Cemetery in Tannersville, VA. The family will be receiving friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made towards the funeral expenses.
